WELCOME to the farm!
Where we are growing in holy anticipation with open hands and bare feet.
We curated our little slogan over the last year as we started digging and praying deeper into the ministry we are feeling called to create. As we progressed through the thick stack of paperwork for our farm loan, I felt convicted to keep a loose grip on the property and vision. Whether we were approved or denied on the loan and business plan, we trusted God. As we got closer to our closing date, weprayed circles through the 11 acres, asking that the land be blessed if we farmed it and for the land to blessed for the future family if we did not farm it.
To my husband's annoyance, I am barefoot about 90% of the time outside. But bare feet are also so sacred in scripture; the washing of feet and walking on holy ground. And "holy anticipation" was a concept I read in Mark Batterson's book, Wild Goose Chase, a few years ago that really challenged the posture of my heart. And so our slogan was born.
I was a nurse for 6 years and always felt that where I am planted is my ministry, but a pull in my soul kept whispering “proceed forward” and after reading Mark Batterson’s book Wild Goose Chase, I quit my job. I didn’t know what that next form of ministry looked like, but the former owner of our home said “perhaps it is right here.” I know she was referring to being a stay-at-home mom and serving my children, but over the past 3 years I have seen how this ministry can unfold on the entirety of our acreage, not just within the walls of my home. The first time we walked the property after closing, I noticed this tree along the property line and it confirmed in my heart, almost like a promise, that I am planted where God has been waiting for me to arrive. At the foot of this rugged cross tree. This tree has sparked so much of our mission, to continue inviting God into this farmhouse where He has always been the common denominator among its former tenants; to ensure rich soil, firm roots, soul nutrients, and faith that stems from just a seed.
“God ordained passions are far more important than any human qualification we can bring to the table. In fact, God often uses us at our point of greatest incompetence. That way He gets all of the credit.” Mark Batterson
There is a beautiful history to our 1887 home, one that has God-ordained footnotes throughout each chapter. From the faith of the founding family who built this home, raised 4 generations, and extended their blessing over our ministry, to the pastor and his wife who prayed over their decision to sell their home to us, and to the heavenly intercession that provided the finances when our own merit could not.
This thin space, where heaven meets earth. Where my spirit is recalibrated. Where the posture of my heart shifts and the margin is filled with grace. There has always been a palpable presence here. God shows up, He meets me where I am, and it becomes Holy Ground. Men go to the mountains to find God, God meets women in the garden, at the well, among the children. So as much as our business plan and property appear to be a farm that sells chicken and duck eggs, microgreens, and lavender fields; we are really more in the business of how can we steward this property for Godto crowd heaven.
And that is the view from my pew.
Our passion is to be the hands and feet of Christ, to meet each Barabas where they are, and for each person to feel seen, loved, and invited.
We practice our posture with open hands, bare feet, on our knees, in the garden, among the children, surrounded by nature.
Our pace is that of Jesus’; to be interruptible, to provide a calm space for others to find rest and relationship.
Our purpose is to crowd heaven through Christ-centered farming.
